Your base becomes a local correction source on your own farm, close to the land where your machinery actually works. It is not an isolated box, though: it also joins the wider RTK Solutions network.

Base owners receive access to the other available bases across the network. When a machine travels away from home, it can use another suitable RTK Solutions base where coverage is available.

VRS and network services from providers such as John Deere and PTx Trimble are useful, particularly when machinery is working a long way from its home farm.

However, a correctly surveyed physical base close to the machine creates a very short correction baseline. That generally reduces distance-related atmospheric errors and can provide excellent local accuracy and repeatability.

We believe the strongest system combines both: a high-quality base close to your normal work and a shared network for travel beyond it.

Because every properly installed base adds coverage, overlap and resilience.

If farms across the country each operated a high-quality base through one shared network, tractors would often be much closer to a real reference station. Overlapping coverage would also give the network more options if any individual base or connection became unavailable.

Yes — deliberately. We do not believe expensive agricultural technology should become scrap because one internal component eventually fails.

The base uses a modular architecture, so the GNSS receiver, processor, communications and power components can be diagnosed and replaced individually. Many replacements are designed to be completed by a competent customer with our remote guidance; more involved repairs can be handled by us.

This also makes the base easier to upgrade as communications, processing and GNSS technology develop.

Our base stations are designed, assembled, configured and tested in the UK.

Wherever practical, major electronic components are selected from established British manufacturers. Where a suitable British-made component is not available, we move to established European and North American manufacturers.

Parts are chosen for performance, reliability, manufacturer support and suitability for continuous operation — not simply because they are the cheapest option.

The latest base uses Power over Ethernet, so its primary internet connection and power travel through the same Ethernet cable.

With the parts and cable route prepared, a normal installation can be completed in around one to two hours. With experience and everything ready beforehand, the physical installation can be brought down to around 40 minutes.

You do not need to build or configure your own NTRIP server, caster or correction stream.

The correction service runs across multiple geographically separated servers with automatic failover.

If the primary server becomes unavailable, the standby server is designed to take over automatically. It does not depend on somebody noticing the outage and manually switching it over.

A backup is only useful if it is ready when you need it.

As far as we are aware, that level of self-service control is unusual in agricultural RTK. It gives customers a modern, direct way to manage their own system while still having support when it is needed.

Over the last 10–15 years, NTRIP has changed how RTK corrections can be distributed. Traditional radio RTK needed costly radio hardware, licences, repeaters and proprietary infrastructure. Internet delivery removes much of that complexity.

Yet some pricing structures still resemble the old radio-RTK era, with a substantial subscription charged separately for every tractor.

We did not think the commercial model had kept pace with the technology. RTK Solutions was created to provide:

Our aim is to make dependable high-accuracy guidance practical for farms of every size, not only those able to absorb several separate annual subscriptions.

Our system uses recognised standards including NTRIP and RTCM rather than being built exclusively around one tractor manufacturer.

That makes it particularly useful for mixed fleets. The tractor, combine and sprayer may all be different makes, and those machines may change several times during the working life of the base.

Compatibility still depends on the machine having a suitable RTK-ready receiver, the required manufacturer unlocks and an NTRIP internet connection. We check this before supply.

At the heart of the base is a professional Septentrio mosaic-X5 multi-frequency, multi-constellation receiver. It is not an older GPS-only or basic dual-band design.

That matters because current agricultural equipment is already moving in the same direction:

The mosaic-X5 already covers the core modern signals used by the latest tractors and agricultural drones. If a genuinely new requirement becomes important later, the GNSS receiver is a replaceable module rather than being permanently built into a disposable unit.

You absolutely can. Forums, magazines and online guides explain how to build an NTRIP RTK base, and it can be a rewarding project for somebody with the time and technical knowledge.

Receiver hardware based on the same Septentrio mosaic-X5 chipset can be bought for around £650, depending on supplier and configuration. But the GNSS receiver is only one part of a dependable permanent system.

We have already done that development and integration work. For £2,095 + VAT including the first year, the managed package includes the complete base, correct setup and calibration, backup systems, redundant servers, customer portal, ongoing support and access to the wider RTK Solutions network.

A DIY base may cost less in raw parts if you value your own time at zero and already have the required infrastructure. Once the complete system and long-term reliability are compared, we believe our package is priced fairly and competitively.
